Jackson in Chi-town!

This last weekend we spent a phenomenal family vacation in Chicago visiting all the sights and spending time with our favorite aunties Megan, Kate and Jo.

We got there pretty late (well past the boy's bedtime anyway) Friday night so we went straight to the hotel where we got in our pj's and ordered in some deep dish pizza. YUM. Jack was none too pleased that Jackson was wearing his special 'Chicago Bears' sleeper that abuelo bought him because he says the only team the boy should be supporting is the Cowboys.
But he woke up singing 'daaaaa bears da bears da bears da bears da bears' so I'm guessing he won't be too much of a Cowboy fan after all ;)
By the way, a special side note to all the moms out there....I ordered all of the basic necessities I needed for the trip from diapers.com so I wouldn't have to carry it all in the suitcase. It showed up in 2 days and we were handed the box as soon as we checked in Friday night. They even had the organic food gordo is oh-so fond of! GREAT service!

Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and after a lovely brunch we headed over to the Lincoln Park Zoo. I think Jack was more excited than Jackson about this and we wondered how he would fare but he seemed to enjoy himself.
Here I am with all his lovely aunties outside the zoo.
Right away Jackson seemed intrigued with the camels. I think from where we were standing he probably thought they looked a lot like my parent's golden retriever, Achilles.

We then headed into the primate house where the boy encountered some chimps, howler monkeys, and HUGE gorillas! Jackson begged to take one home as a pets so we told him this little stuffed guy was the real-deal.
While Jackson seemed only somewhat interested in the giraffe and all the other animals in the zoo he was the most taken with the water features, the fish and the meerkats. We all joked that this kid really only needs a puddle of water to be happy.
He told me he liked the meerkats so much because they reminded him of his big brother, Chaucer Burrito.
After a fun time at the zoo we went to the famous Portillos and devoured some hot dogs.
Though Jackson seemed more interested in eating the plant...
That night we left the boy with a sitter and momma and daddy enjoyed some 'adult time' with their amigos!
The next day however, it was back to the boy. We started our morning with a crazy rendition of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. This was more of an inside joke as Jack has read this book to Jackson since he was in the womb. While Jackson seems some what interested in the book version, he was NOT a fan of the 'play' version.

In fact, he was more interested in watching real-life pigeons in Millennium Park and no, they do not drive buses.
We saw all the beautiful exhibits in Millennium Park and once again Jackson was most interested in the water feature. Shocker.

We stopped in front of the Art Institute to recreate a photo (will post later) of myself when I was a baby in front of the lion statue.
Later we decided to head to the Field Museum and I'm really glad we did because I had never been there. The dinosaur and whale exhibit were fantastic! Jackson LOVED seeing Sue and he wore his dino shirt especially for the occasion. Man, this kid always has the perfect outfits for all of his special occasions. He's such a great dresser ;)
We LOVED Chicago--the sights, the food, the aunties, all wonderful! We couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation and special thanks to Kate, Megan and Jo for coming along for the ride.

36 Hrs

So next weekend my friend Angie is having her bachelorette party here in Austin. There will be lotssss of friends in town for the event. Saturday night all the girls will be staying at a hotel downtown and it will mark my first night away from the cub.

It will be a difficult process not only for emotional reasons but because there is A LOT of preparation that goes into leaving Jackson even just for 4 hrs.

While I'm away Jack will be watching the boy and they will be having some serious father-son bonding time. I think it will be a thrilling weekend for the both of them as Jack has already prepared play dates, visits with uncles and even a baby shower for Jack's friend Derrick (mentioned in a previous post...It's a couples baby shower).

I on the other hand cannot let the control freak in me go and have brought up next Saturday at least a dozen times. I know Jack is getting sick of the incessant lists, the things Jackson can/cannot eat, when to feed him, how to feed him, how much to feed him, his likes/his dislikes, etc. etc. etc.

Recently I sent him an email recounting the above for the 146th time and letting him know that it will probably be at most 36 hrs of separation. I think I finally broke the last straw as Jack responded with this:

Cub meets Cusunga! Finally!!!

As many of you know (and for those who don't) I am a licensed realtor here in Texas. My license is coming up for renewal soon and in order to keep it I had to take 60 hrs of continuing education courses. Not so hard, I know, but a pretty difficult thing to do when 100% of my time is devoted to the boy.

While I'm positive I would have gotten it done alone (even if I had to stay up every night after Jackson went down) I couldn't pass on the offer my parents gave me of helping out so I could get it knocked out faster. Soooo, what would have taken me 2 weeks to do, ended up taking me 2 days. THANK YOU MOM AND DAD!!!!

Also?! We got to stick around in time for our sweet boy to meet my dad's side of the family. He's never met Cusunga (his other great-grandma) and my dad's brother, Tio Leo and his wife, (my aunt) Tia Ada.
They came in all the way from Tegucigalpa, Honduras to visit and spend time with Jackson. I think it was a genuine love-fest from both sides. I only wish my cousins would have come and that we would have had more time together.

We really hope to one day be able to take Jackson to see the beauty that is Honduras. I think he'll have a blast visiting the Bay Islands, the Copan Ruins, and most of all--the family. Plus he already eats rice and beans! PURO LATINO!

7 Months!!!

As you can tell these are getting A LOT more difficult to come by, the boy has become an extremely touchy subject and refuses to sit. Also, sorry for the delay...

Fab Five

Today Jack and I celebrate five years of marriage. I consider myself truly lucky to have such an amazing partner in life and remember to thank God daily for his blessing. Jack, I love you more than anything and anytime I may falter I just look into the eyes of our son, see you and he gives me all the strength I need to be a better wife and mother.

And with all that cheesiness I leave y'all with a cheesy family picture of us from a few months back:

And a more recent one of the boy sleeping in his favorite place, the hammock:

Bath Time Sabotage

Today during bath time Jackson's 'amigos' conspired against him. A Mutiny On the Bounty if you will. I think its because the cub took their penguin hostage but Jackson would beg to differ blaming it instead on 'cultural differences'.
Here they are in their battle positions ready to pounce at a moment's notice...
It was a VERY bloody war...
But if you ask me, these amigos never had a real chance anyways...not against the gordo.
There were some war wounds, (pruney toes).
But Jackson does not take sabotage lightly y'all...

Good Ole SU

This weekend was busy busy busy. We had family come into town all the way from Honduras to drop off my cousin, Celia who will be attending Southwestern University (our alma mater!!!!) starting this fall semester. We of course helped her get all of her stuff together and situated in her new dorm room (Brown Cody for all you SU grads). While there we took full advantage of being on SU's campus by taking our sweet little cub on a tour of where his mom and dad first met.
We dressed him in his 'nerd' shirt for the occasion in hopes of being named a Brown Scholar.
...Unfortunately his Uncle Derrick said he was one point short on his SAT score but he said he was still invited to TOGA!!!! Derrick is Jack's big brother in their fraternity and Hillary's big brother in real life.
Here is Jackson with my awesome cousin, Celia. Congrats on getting into a great school sweet cousin!
We enjoyed walking around and seeing all the changes SU has undergone...

As we were walking around campus Jackson spotted a huge fountain and asked to go swimming. Before we knew it, he stripped down and dove in head first!

...Guess Phi Delta Theta runs strong in his veins!!!!

Chucky comes to visit

We had a little friend come and visit us today. His name is Chucky and he belongs to my Aunt and Uncle who came to visit from Honduras to drop off my cousin at Southwestern University (more on that in a future post). Jackson seemed to be very confused by Chucky but they both enjoyed some outside time/fun in the bird bath. Enjoy the pics!
