Lake Tahoe

For New Year's this year we decided to pack up, pick up and fly to Lake Tahoe for some skiing with my brothers, Mayra, my parents, and Jack's brother, Stephen.
I haven't skied in yearssssss and for some one who grew up skiing on a regular basis (I lived 2.5 hours from Ski Apache in New Mexico) this was making me quite sad. I was just a little excited to see fresh powder on the ground...
See?! Excited....We also thought it was high time Jackson began skiing. It's a sport he's going to have to love whether he likes it or not. Both him and James just have to do certain things in life. Skiing is one of them. Loving avocados is another one but that's another story...

While I was excited for Jackson to start his ski lessons I was also hesitant because it was part of an 'all-day-ski-school-adventure'. I didn't know how he'd handle being away from no one he knew or even recognized from 9am-4pm. I mean, it kind of sounded like a job to me. At least that's what I told Jack anyways.

Jack of course reassured me and told me everything would be fine. I believed him, until we walked into the 'drop your kid off here' location. It was chaos. No, chaos is an understatement. There were sooooo many people, kids, staff, toys, noises. It was a sensory overload and Jack and I stared, lingered, met every single person on staff and then hesitantly walked towards the door certain Jackson would be joining us.

Turns out we were worried for nothing though. Jackson had already taken off his heavy layers, made a friend, found a pile of dinosaurs and was quickly ushering Jack and I out the door. "Bye momma, bye dada, bye, bye guys!" was the last thing we heard before we walked away.
This kid surprises me, like EVERY time. Turns out he was a rock star. Everyone loved him, he did everything anyone asked and he skied. Every day he got better and better. I'm so freaking proud of him...
James was a bit jealous too. He heard about all the fun his brother was having and wanted to join in. We told him he needs to grow just a little bit more (but not too much) and he too can ski Tahoe.  In the meantime he entertained my parents who were sooooo bored drinking their beers, bloodys, and shopping the latest in ski wear. Side note: my parents don't even ski, but if they ever decide to they will be fully outfitted...

One morning we decided to take a day off skiing and instead take the boys up the gondola to check out the view...

They were in heaven...
Can you see why?!
We let them play in the snow a bit once at the top....
But they (read Jackson) wanted to dance instead. Turns out it was a bit too chilly and the lion cub just wanted to groove...
He IS a jungle cat after all.

New Year's Eve was spent at a local restaurant for dinner (sans boys)
and I was asleep by 10pm. Surprised? Yeaaaaaaa neither am I. Apparently the rest of my crew had a good time ringing in the New Year together. Wish I could have made it, but I had an early call time (James doesn't understand time zones).

A perfect vacation if you ask me. Thanks to all the tios, tia Mayra, and especially my mom and dad for making it all possible. The boys raved about it alllllll the way home :).
