Paging Dr. Diaz-Davalos

We still aren't certain which name she goes by for her M.D. status so we'll just call her both. Anyhow, yesterday we spent some time in San Antonio helping Karla get situated in her new apartment as she gets ready to start her sleep fellowship in the Alamo City. It was supposed to be just a day trip but turned into a fun sleepover with his Tia Karla and Tia Patty.

Jackson had a good time going from store to store picking out furniture, clothes and all kinds of goodies for Karla's apartment and I of course had a BLAST organizing, hanging and decorating someone else's house! Its a good thing Karla is so laid back because it gave her mom and I a perfect opportunity to make her surroundings beautiful and gave Karla a chance to hold the boy and change a few diapers in the process :).

Check out the fruits of our labor:

J Meets C

This past weekend was full of all kinds of adventures for the little one (and his parents!). Friday night our friends Mark and Jessica Stoner came into town for Jess's birthday and they brought along their beautiful Collier so that he could meet Jackson for the first time. Jackson was soooo excited that as soon as I opened the front door to let them in he spit up all over himself, (lovely first impression huh?). While I didn't think there was going to be a whole lot of interacting on Jackson's part, I was pleasantly surprised to see that he was genuinely interested in what Collier was doing and likewise, Collier was all about grabbing Jackson and talking to him.

Collier has a big sister named Addie (of the dog variety) and so he was VERY interested in Jackson's big brother, Chaucer. He also LOVED our couch ottomans and it was pretty cool to see the kinds of stuff Jackson is going to be doing in just 3 months time. Saturday night the boys had a sleepover while their parents went out to celebrate and I think they had a FUN night because when Collier's grandparents went to pick him up at our house he told them all about his new best friend Jackson and the gordo woke up the next morning asking where his new friend had gone.

Jack and I are really happy the boys got along so well because we're planning lots of adventures with the Stoners and its nice to think that they'll always have each other for company.

Sunday the lion cub seemed a little bored and HOT so his dad went out and bought him the most amazing little-kid pool I have ever seen. Jackson lounged in it the better half of the afternoon and when he asked for company (pretty sure he meant Collier so they could play) his dad obliged and got in it with him...

I cannot believe Jack let me post that picture! Isn't it sweet/scary though? Hope y'all had a great weekend :)

Solids

So the gordo started solids this week. Its actually not as exciting as I thought it was going to be. Sad face. He doesn't seem to be too adamant about eating these foods because he just keeps spitting them back out. I know this is supposed to happen because he hasn't quite mastered the art of not pushing his tongue out but I guess I was expecting him to inhale his food. Not the case...

Also, he has recently become easily distracted and I am constantly having to tell him to "FOCUS" when I feed him because he stops, looks around, talks, smiles, laughs and pretty much does everything BUT eat. If he does that when I feed him you can only imagine how distracted he gets when he has been eating from a spoon....Yea, its pretty bad.

While eating in his chair he is always looking around for what Chaucer is doing. It got so bad I decided to put the burrito on the counter with him so that way he would stop looking at him. Turns out Chaucer is reallllyyyyyyy loving the fact that his little brother isn't such a fan of solids yet because Chaucer is a HUGE fan.

So far we've tried: sweet potatoes, applesauce and we are currently on bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S! I do think he is getting better and better as each day passes and his Doctor says solids aren't really important until 6 months anyways.

My dad says all of this messing around on Jackson's part is due to his lack of taste. Apparently he hasn't developed a palette for the finer things in life ;). We're not worried though, I just know that soon he'll be eating foie gras and ordering a side of truffle oil with his meals before we know it!

Little J in the Big D

This past weekend we spent some time away from Austin and headed to the Big D to celebrate our Auntie Angie's wedding shower and Auntie Mona's (Megan's) birthday. We had a great time and luckily had an easy drive up and down. I don't know if I've mentioned this before but the gordo is NOT a fan of his car seat so we always worry when we have to drive anywhere. We lucked out on the way up because it was his bed time so he just slept and I only had to make weird animal noises for 30 minutes on the way back home, (thank God) but I digress...

Angie's wedding shower was a HUGE success...she cleaned up pretty well in the gifts department and I'm fairly certain she had herself an embarrassing/wonderful time. I know I did anyways, I love spending time with our friends and Angie's family and while the little one was not invited to the actual shower (also thank God because I could relax) he DID ham it up before and after with Angie's mom and all the lovely ladies that were invited.

Saturday night we reconvened with our significant others (and the boy) and all headed out to our fave restaurant in Dallas, Mi Cocina to celebrate Mona and have one too many mambo taxis...but whose counting?

Did y'all notice the necklace I'm wearing? I'm getting a little verklempt while writing this, but I sincerely have the most amazing friends in the entire world. They are die hard fans of this blog and as a birthday present decided to buy me the GORGEOUS agate necklace I had been PINING over for quite some time! I love you guys! Truly, thank you from the bottom of my heart :)

So after dinner (and enjoying wearing my necklace) we headed back over to Angie's and had some delicious birthday cake and stayed up wayyyy too late celebrating the birthday girl.

Jackson seems to be a big fan of hotel rooms but not-so-much of the pack n' plays provided by the hotels because he never seems to sleep well in them. This time he insisted on sleeping in our bed and ended up kicking out his poor dad so that HE could sleep soundly. Come 7am he also ended up kicking his momma out!

After packing up his suitcase the boy was ready to head back to Austin but not before we said one last goodbye to all of his beautiful aunties and his BFF Bobby who was also visiting with his parents Pat & Jeanna. Look how big little Bobby is getting!

Father's Day

We spent Father's Day weekend in Dallas visiting friends of ours (more on that in a later post) and celebrating wedding showers and birthdays so today--actual Father's Day--was spent mostly driving back home to Austin. We started off the day with a lovely brunch with our friends in Dallas and when we got home we slipped back into our usual day-to-day routine of playing, strolling, bathing, and feeding Jackson.

Right after bath time and in between story time however, Jackson decided to give his daddy his Father's Day gifts and tell him what an absolutely amazing dad he is and how much he loves him. Jack was thoroughly impressed with Jackson's ability to give him his gifts (we're working on sitting now!) and absolutely LOVED his presents. The boy really has a way of melting hearts and was being especially cute during 'Jackson & daddy time'.

Jack loved his sweet stache' toiletry bag and his awesome boat shoes. It just so happens my dad got the same gifts as his father's day presents, wonder how that happened? Jackson must have little birdies all over the place ;)

I wish I could have celebrated today with my own dad, but I'm sure we'll get to see him again very soon. Love you papi! I hope everyone had a lovely day!

Gigi and Abuelito's House

As you all know the lion cub and I recently paid a visit to his adoring Gigi and Abuelito's. While at their house we enjoyed delicious food, days full of swimming and lounging, and hours upon hours of being spoiled rotten. I LOVE my parents house, it really is like its own oasis out in the middle of the desert and my parents are good about keeping teams of people around to help in any way they can.

As soon as we got home from the airport we were greeted by my little brothers, Maximus and Achilles, the most delicious tortilla soup--EVER--and a BIG glass of wine for yours truly, (Jackson is still too young to drink in case you were wondering).

The boy and I woke up late, swam in their pool and took daily naps in the hammock. By the way? Babies+hammocks+running water=VERY successful nap times :).

Swallows that live at my parents house that try and attack us every once in a while:

I'm sure you all are wondering whether the boy has either lost all of his hair or had another haircut. Well, its the latter. I get pretty tired of styling his hair on a daily basis and believe it or not his hair grows like crazy! So once again Malena (the famous hairdresser) came to the house and cut the kid's hair....I'm telling you, spoiled rotten. Though, the truth behind us 'having' to get his hair cut by Malena is because Jack has declared that "Only Malena is allowed to touch Jackson's head". So there you have it--plane ticket + private hairstylist=most expensive haircut ever.

And I know we've been talking a lot about solids recently and how we were going to wait until the 5 month mark but his abuelito couldn't wait any longer and bought him some organic sweet potatoes to try out:

He was soooo confused by them and ended up getting them ALL over himself but it was fun to try! We'll see how it really goes when we start giving him solids on a daily basis next week! Here he is after eating solids being carried around by my dad (we had to take all his clothes off because they were COVERED in sweet potatoes):

Apart from being spoiled and having the time of his life Jackson had lottssssss of visitors come over daily to say hello. I can't believe I didn't get a single picture (of any of them) but thank you to: Ms. Garcia and Nicole, Mrs. Laura Orozco, Mrs. Loya and Regina, Mrs. Martinez and the twins, Mijo and Mija and Karla, and Monica and Ms. Elsa for coming and saying hello to our little gordo. He appreciated the love and the presents :)

ELP >> AUS...Flight home

For those of you wondering how the boy did on his flight back home today? FAB. PRAISE JESUS. If you know me you know I'm famous for missing flights. Today I sincerely thought was going to be one of those days.

The day started off great, we were packed, dressed and ready to go. We even had a fantastic lunch with my mom's 'Sex & The City' group of girls celebrating one of their birthdays. We had soooo much fun at said lunch that we ended up staying until 2:45pm and my flight was at 4pm AND we still had to stop by my dad's office to say adieu to grandpa. Luckily my mom knows everyone and their mother and as we were driving from the restaurant to my dad's office we happened to run into one of her friends and her daughter on a street corner and she asked them to jump in the car so they could help us out at the airport.

I can't make this stuff up if I tried people. This is the kind of stuff that happens to my mother on a daily basis. Anyways, good thing they jumped in the car with us because they were a MAJOR help at the airport! They checked me in, helped carry the car seat, hauled my luggage and carried in the sweet angel himself.

We of course made it to the plane as it was boarding and walked right on where we ended up settling in to a row all to ourselves! I think Jackson was so excited from all the hustle and bustle that he couldn't even sleep so he ended up playing with/eating his Sophie for a while:

Then he got hungry:

Decided to take a nap:

But Momma was a lot more comfy:

He woke up as we were landing and asked to look out the window at 'his' city. He told me he really enjoyed the view of Austin from up in the sky:

And finally as we were deboarding I told him Daddy was coming to pick us up at the airport and he got realllllyyyyy excited because he hadn't seen him in such a long time. He was looking for him as we went down the escalators and got a HUGE smile on his face as soon as he spotted him:

They were so happy to see each other again!

So sweet :) Lots to talk about from our trip to EP, but we'll save that for another post.
