Happy Easter!

Happy Easter all! We had a very low key Easter Sunday in El Paso. The cub had a great time and my parents thankfully took over all the festivities because Dos is making me extra exhausted as of late.
Jackson had two different Easter egg hunts and got lots of books, stickers, cars and money. He was so mesmerized with all the eggs and quarters!
The Easter bunny hid Jackson's eggs alongside cars so the boy was distracted all along the way.

He also didn't want to let go of his cars and chose to carry them around for the remainder of the hunt...
He was too adorable (as usual) and the remainder of the day was spent napping, swimming and eating a yummy grilled dinner. Easter perfection! Hope you all had a good day as well.

Just like Gigi

This boy enjoys talking. Talking to us, talking to himself, talking on the phone. We think it's hilarious that he answers his phone in Spanish. EVERY time! It's too funny. Jack says he sounds just like my mom when he talks, I have to agree. He even yells on the phone when he's talking just like she does! Sorry mom, but you do ;)

A Morning at Camp Mabry

Camp Mabry is a small military post in Austin that houses the Texas Army National Guard amongst other organizations. If you've driven on Mopac you've most likely seen Camp Mabry off to the side and it's easily recognizable because of the planes and helicopters on the parameter of its fields.
Which is how Jackson happened to come across it. We pass Camp Mabry almost daily on Mopac and EVERY time the boy mentions the 'parque de aviones y helicopteros' (helicopter and plane park). He's pretty much been asking me to go to it for quite some time now.

I only recently learned that the post is open to the public so we decided the cub would be thrilled to walk the grounds...
And boy was he ever! He could not believe he was actually getting to see these military birds up close and personal!

He asked us to bring along his dinosaur friends, (Spike, Rex and Dinosaurio Cafe) as they seem to travel EVERYWHERE with us recently...
As you can see his 'guys' (as he calls the dinosaurs jointly) enjoyed the planes, pastures and even being put in to what was once the guns of the helicopter.
Jackson said he enjoyed himself as well and what's more--we got to see our first glimpse of Bluebonnets this season!
We will definitely be returning to Camp Mabry as it has loads of picnic areas, parks and a PX. Brings back memories of going on base when I was younger with my dad when he served in the Army. We used to have lots of fun on Ft. Bliss in El Paso.

A Room for a Big Boy

So as discussed in the previous post, we have moved our little lion cub into a big cub bed. We weren't intending to do this any time soon, it was our plan to keep him in the nursery until well into baby Dos's arrival because I didn't want him to feel as though we were 'kicking him out'.

I had somewhat begun rearranging the guest room and painting it/putting new bedding on the bed because I at least wanted Jackson to have a new space but by no means were we pushing him to like it.

I decided a while ago that we were NOT going to change the furniture because I wanted to use as much of what we had already so as to keep the change simple. Also, I'm not into buying tiny beds/furniture/cutesy toddler things which is why his room looks more like a pre-teen room than a happy-smiling mushroom-train-plane-room (my interpretation of most decorative toddler items). I'm sorry, I love them, I can appreciate them in other people's homes, but it would have given me a headache if I had to constantly see it in my own home. So without further hesitation, here it is!
Jackson moved HIMSELF in shortly after his 2nd birthday. I have only now posted about it because I wanted to get more decorative items in there and make solid sure his transition was, 1)smooth and 2)permanent.

Both were true right away. Something Jack and I talk about constantly is how incredibly simple and amazing our boy is. Not for nothing but this kid has made any and all transitions sooooooo unbelievably easy that I'm scared for Dos's personality to be the opposite of this. Jackson napped in his room for 4 days and on the 4th day I was taking him upstairs to put him to sleep for the night in the nursery, he asked me to be put him in his 'cuarto nuevo, cama grande!' (new room, big bed!).  I was scared, of course but minded his request and prepared myself for a sleepless night--NO such thing. Next night--same, following--even better--he slept longer, deeper and more serene than usual.

Since then it's been the same, he gets excited to go to his room and loves sleeping in his bed. He CAN in fact get in and out of his bed as he pleases (because of the bench in front) and does so from time to time, but mostly he prefers to roll around in his bed until his Dada or I come and get him.

He loves playing at his play table, reading in 'HIS' chair and messing around with his night lights...
And his night lights deserve attention as well. Jack was dying to buy this boy a moon and earth night light to hang in his room. Since I'm SO picky I was against it for a while but finally caved as I haven't seen Jack so excited about a kids toy pretty much ever.

Turns out they are SUPER awesome. They look just like the moon/earth when all the lights are off and Jackson has remote controls for each one of them so he can click them on/off as he pleases from his bed. They are in opposite corners of the room and combined with his blue sleep turtle (pictured above on his bed) that lights up stars--it looks like his very own Solar System in his very own room! It's pretty neat, VERY serene and the boy thoroughly enjoys it.
Besides a few more decorative items, some reading book shelves, and the letter 'C' (for his initial...which is backordered until JUNE...ugh) the room is complete! What's more? Jackson LOVES it, which was my main concern. I'm so glad he's happy because that of course makes me ecstatic!

As for the nursery, well I'm working on that as well. For the most part it will stay the same, but Dos will be getting new bedding, drapes and accesories. It's only fair because he will be equally as awesome as his big brother ;). I'll make sure to post those pictures when we're done.

Sleepover!

Recently my friend, Darshana (Samaya's mom) asked me to be her 'back up' in case she went into labor with her second baby early and her original back up (her mom) wasn't here yet. I thought (and said) SURE! Knowing well her mom would be here a whole two weeks ahead of Darshana's due date and didn't really think much past that.

WELL, guess what? She went into labor a solid THREE weeks early and I had the pleasure of hosting Samaya at our house!
I'm making this all sound like it was a bad thing, when really it was a very enjoyable time had by all--especially Jackson. He was ELATED to have Samaya over and couldn't get enough of her. He is soooo sweet with all of his friends, it makes your heart burst to see him interact with them.

Here they are comparing night lights (in Jackson's new bed! More on that later!) after their naps...
And the remainder of the afternoon was spent playing in the backyard, eating snacks, dinner and going on walks. These kids were fairly easy minus changing twice as many diapers, picking up after two toddlers, bathing both of them, etc. etc.
I was thankful this all went down on a Sunday AND Jack was available to help out. He was a HUGE help!

That night the kids went down fairly easy but woke up around 5 in the morning and in separate rooms no less! I couldn't believe Jackson woke up as he NEVER does this kind of thing and felt terrible for Samaya because she really missed her mom and dad. I grabbed both of them, settled into Samaya's bed (an air mattress in the nursery) and told them we were going back to sleep. Somehow the three of us managed to stay in bed until 7:30...Thank God.
That morning Samaya's parents called and said they had a beautiful little sister that Samaya just HAD to meet. Her sister, Devni was born around 6pm the night before and everything went smoothly with both mom and baby.

Jackson and I dropped Samaya off at her house and while we were so sad to see her go, she was ECSTATIC to see her daddy! Guess we were too much for her?!?
Samaya-- you are welcome back anytime and congrats to our friends, Jeff and Darshana on a perfect Devni!
